The starting date for demolition of the Harrison Street Bridge spanning the Kennedy Expressway, scheduled to begin April 8, has been delayed until April 22.

Contractors are expected to work “around the clock” to complete the project, said Michael Landek, executive associate vice chancellor for administrative services. The Halsted Street Bridge will also be demolished in coming weeks.

As construction continues on the Morgan Street Bridge, a large crane will be on site between midnight and 5 a.m. April 15 and 16 to lift new beams over the Eisenhower Expressway. Access to parking Lot 9 may be blocked temporarily; drivers can use parking Lot 1A if necessary.

Utility work at the intersection of Harrison and Halsted Streets is scheduled to begin April 11 and continue through April 25. The through traffic lanes on Halsted over the bridge will be switched temporarily from the southbound to northbound side during this period.

The westbound lanes on Harrison Street between Halsted and Morgan will remain closed until April 25.
