Earth Day at UIC

Ecojamapalooza Earth Day celebration 2010

EcoCampus, a student club supporting green initiatives, and the University of Illinois at Chicago Office of Sustainability present EcoJam: an Earth Day celebration for the UIC community.

The event features:

– Live music, including the Giving Tree Band
– Activities and giveaways
– Dance performances
– Local green businesses
– Student organizations and campus departments

Monday, April 22

10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

WHERE:

Lecture Center quad (behind UIC Student Center East,750 S. Halsted St.). Rain location is in UIC Student Center East, Room 302

DETAILS:

EcoJam is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Student Activities Funding Committee, ZipCar and the UIC Office of Sustainability.

UIC was the first university in Chicago to establish an Office of Sustainability.  In 2009, UIC published a Climate Action Plan to reduce carbon emissions by at least 80 percent by 2050.  Four buildings on campus have had green roofs installed and two buildings have achieved LEED certification.
