Green events for Sustainability Days

Students plant in the UIC Heritage Garden

Tour the UIC Heritage Garden Sept. 15.

The Office of Sustainability will host a week of activities on recycling, conserving energy, using active transportation and more during Sustainability Days, Sept. 14 to 21.

A farmers market Sept. 15 brings vendors partnered with UIC Dining Services to the quad.

The campus community can get free stuff, do yoga and tour UIC’s retro-fitted lecture halls, among other green events.

“Becoming aware of your environment and surroundings and how you impact others” is the mission for Sustainability Days, said Lisa Sanzenbacher, program coordinator for outreach in the Office of Sustainability.

The goal is to offer fun events that involve UIC students in creating an environmentally sound campus and promoting a sustainable lifestyle, she said.

A social media photo contest offers the chance to win a UIC upcycled banner bag, made with banners that hung on campus. To enter, attend Sustainability Days events and post a selfie with #SustainabilityDays on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and like or follow the Office of Sustainability on the social media site. Winners will be selected at random and contacted via social media.
