Gymnasts compete at NCAA regionals

UIC gymnasts Catherine Dion and Chantel Turk placed 11th and 16th at the NCAA Regional competition Saturday hosted by Oklahoma.

“Catherine and Chantel both did fantastic,” co-head coach Peter Jansson said.

“Chantel showed some of her best sets ever, and Catherine hit all four events. We are so proud of them for how well they represented UIC.”

Dion showed her best performance on the beam with a 9.800, placing 13th.

She notched a 24th-place finish on bars with a 9.775 score, tied for 33rd on vault (9.725) and scored a 9.550 on the floor.

Dion totaled a 38.850 all-around score to finish 11th place overall.

Turk collected a 9.825 on the floor for a 16th-place tie and a 9.800 on vault for a 22nd-place tie. She compiled a 9.650 on bars to tie for 39th place and an 8.925 on the beam to place 42nd.

The senior put together a 38.200 all-around score for her final collegiate meet and a 16th-place finish.

Oklahoma and Stanford qualified for national competition with scores of 197.375 and 196.800.
