Ignite showcases campus for future Flames

UIC put its best face forward Saturday for about 2,000 visitors — admitted undergraduate students and their families from all over the country — for the second annual UIC Ignite.

The event included tours, receptions, information and advising. Break-out sessions offered lectures and demonstrations from faculty and students in the colleges of Applied Health Sciences; Architecture, Design and the Arts; Urban Planning and Public Affairs; Business; Education; Engineering; and Liberal Arts and Sciences.

“The event provided not only practical information about enrollment, but information about the educational and mentoring opportunities that are here for students,” said Renee Taylor, vice provost for faculty affairs and professor of occupational therapy.

The President’s Awards Program, Latin American Recruitment and Education Services and the African American Recruitment and Enrollment Initiative hosted informal get-togethers.

“Our goal is to show admitted students and their families what UIC is about, so they can make an informed decision about where to spend the next four years of their life,” said Kevin Browne, vice provost for academic and enrollment services.

“There was great energy. We hit it out of the park.”

New Chancellor Michael Amiridis welcomed the crowd at the UIC Pavilion, noting that he, like them, was a UIC freshman.

“See you at graduation in four years!” he said.
