A horde of Chicago Marathon competitors are undaunted by construction for the Byrne Interchange reconstruction as they head south on Halsted past campus Sunday morning. A crowd of UIC supporters, including the Flames spirit squads, student athletes, student organizations and the UIC Pep Band, cheered the runners in front of Student Center East.

It was ideal weather for a 26.2 mile race through Chicago neighborhoods. Eliud Kipchoge of Kenya won the men’s title in 2 hours, 4 minutes, 11 seconds. Rita Jeptoo, also of Kenya, took the women’s title for the second year, this time in 2 hours, 24 minutes, 35 seconds.

More than 41,000 started the race. Read about the experiences of UIC faculty, staff and students who competed in Wednesday’s UIC News. Were you one of them? Email us!
