UIC News received two awards in this year’s Pride of CASE V competition, honoring the best work in communications, alumni relations and development by member universities in the Midwest.

This makes a total of 12 CASE Awards received by UIC News — 11 awards since 2009.

This year, UIC News received a Gold Award for Best Video Feature for “Fruit Oasis in a Food Desert,” a video about a first-year medical student’s project to set up a fruit cart outside UI Hospital in a partnership with a nonprofit organization that gives jobs to homeless and formerly incarcerated people.

Video credits go to Sharon Parmet, associate director, news bureau, Office of Public Affairs, reporter; S.K. Vemmer, UIC News editorial associate, videographer and editor; and Sonya Booth, director of campus communications, producer.

Gary Wisby, UIC News assistant editor, received a Bronze Award for Excellence in Feature Writing, Series, for the “Profile” series, a weekly feature on members of the campus community — his fourth CASE Award for “Profile.”

UIC News also won a Gold Award for video in 2012 for “Match Day.”

The UIC News staff also includes Christy Levy, associate editor; Anna Dworzecka, visual design manager; Megan Strand, associate graphic designer; and Nicole Cardos, editorial associate.
