College of Dentistry riverboat tour

As part of the centennial year celebration for the College of Dentistry, the college will host a Spirit of Peoria Riverboat Tour on the Illinois River June 15.

Events begin at 7 p.m. with a dockside cookout, followed by a river cruise from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. The Caribbean-themed cruise will feature a Jimmy Buffet cover band.

Cost for cruise, dinner and drinks is $50 plus tax.

Alumni of the UIC, Loyola and Northwestern dental schools, spouses, guests and friends, are invited.

INSPIRE Award

June 30 is the deadline to nominate UIC employees for the INSPIRE Award, which recognizes long-term, consistent and outstanding professional service to the UIC community.

Anyone employed by UIC on the Chicago, Rockford and Peoria campuses, including faculty, staff and student workers, is eligible.

Submit nominations to lgrider@uic.edu

Winners will be recognized at the annual Employee Recognition Ceremony.

Honoring outstanding employees

Nominations are due June 28 for the Award of Merit, a $2,500 award given to up to 30 academic professional and support staff employees at the Employee Recognition Award Program Nov. 5.

To be eligible, employees must be at least 50 percent time and have worked at UIC for at least three years.

The award is given for excellence in work performance and leadership.

 

Book club


The WoRD Book Club, sponsored by the Chancellor’s Committee on the Status of Women, has chosen its summer selection: Women Don’t Ask: The High Cost of Avoiding Negotiation — and Positive Strategies for Change, by Linda Babcock and Sara Laschever.

The group will meet to discuss the book from noon to 1 p.m. July 15 in the Daley Library. The campus community is welcome.
