UIC will continue remote work options for those who can telecommute. A phased-in approach for returning employees to campus will include providing face coverings, social/physical distancing measures and enhanced cleaning procedures throughout campus.

Telecommuting

All employees who can productively work from home should continue to do so. For specific guidance on employees who must return to work to support necessary on-site operations, visit the Human Resources Road to Recovery webpage.

Accommodations

  • UIC is committed to supporting employees who are at a higher risk of illness due to COVID-19, based on currently available information from the CDC.
  • Any employee instructed to return to work on campus, in alignment with city and state public health guidelines, that is at higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19, may request Reasonable Accommodation. The Office for Access and Equity (OAE) will respond to all requests as soon as possible.
  • Requests based upon medical conditions should be made through the OAE following established procedures, using an online form.

Phased and staggered staffing guidelines

  • UIC staff will return to campus in phases to ensure personal protective equipment (PPE) and testing capabilities for COVID-19 and appropriate social distancing measures are available.
  • Departments should schedule partial staffing on alternating days to reduce density and enable social distancing.
  • Staggering reporting and departure times by at least 30 minutes will reduce traffic in common areas to meet social distancing requirements.
  • Telecommuting agreements approved in March 2020 continue. Supervisors are responsible for updating agreements to account for any changes.

HR policy/practice

For specific HR policy/practices that apply to employees who are required to report to campus to perform job duties, visit the Human Resources Road to Recovery webpage.
