EMA [Pablo Larraín / Chile / 2019 / 102 min]

Excellent film presented by Chilean directors Pablo Larrain. The film narrates the story about two adoptive parents Ema and Gastón who are artistic free spirits in a contemporary dance troupe whose lives are thrown into chaos when their adopted son Polo is involved in a shockingly violent incident. As her marriage crumbles in the wake of the couple’s decision to reverse the adoption, Ema embarks on an odyssey of liberation and self-discovery as she dances and seduces her way into a daring new life.

THE CITY OF THE FUTURE (A CIDADE DO FUTURO) [Marília Hughes, Claudio Marques / Brazil / 2016 / 75 min]

The Film “The City of The Future” is in Serra do Ramalho, Brazil, where a young teacher Milla finds herself pregnant by her colleague Gilmar. Gilmar is in a relationship with Igor, but Milla asserts that the baby will belong to all three of them. Despite some initial conflict between the three, and in defiance to their community’s reaction, they form an unconventional but remarkably uncomplicated family. The film is directed by Marília Hughes and Claudio Marques and they created an excellent film hat shuns convention, embracing love in all its dazzling iterations.

Inspired by a true story of bravery and resilience and directed by Rosario Jiménez Gili, Camila’s Awakening tells the story of Camila, an smart and beautiful girl. She has managed to achieve every goal. She loves swimming and doesn’t know failure. However, the water that has given her success in the recent past, now leads her to the biggest setback of her life: a cerebrovascular accident (CVA) that will force her to reinvent herself with courage, humor, and love

Seven countries, seven popular markets, seven cultures. The first documentary of its kind, From the Land to Your Table shows the perspectives of seven Ibero-American filmmakers as they capture the conditions and cultural diversity of popular produce markets in their individual countries. Created collectively, each segment in this brilliantly executed documentary retains its own unique style and tone, highlighting the fascinating stories of the foods that eventually wind up on our tables.

EVERYBODY KNOWS (TODOS LO SABEN) [Asghar Farhadi / France, Spain, Italy / 2018 / 132min]

Penélope Cruz, Javier Bardem, and Ricardo Darín star in the new psychological thriller from Academy Award®-winning director Asghar Farhadi (A Separation, The Salesman). The story follows Laura (Penélope Cruz), a Spanish woman living in Buenos Aires, who returns with her children to her hometown outside Madrid for a wedding. The mood is festive, and many faces from the past are present for the nuptials, including Paco (Javier Bardem), a longtime friend of the family. When Laura’s daughter goes missing, and text messages arrive asking for ransom, the happy reunion takes a hard turn into nightmarish territory, bringing secrets into the open.
