Against Erasure: Preserving Palestinian Sign Language

Date / Time

March 4, 2025

3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Join the UIC Arab American Cultural Center and the UIC Disability Cultural Center for a workshop to learn basic words and phrases in Palestinian Sign Language, the native sign language used by the Palestinian deaf community. Follow along with lessons designed by deaf Palestinians Nesma Kreyyem and Noor Mohammed and presented by Grace Lester, a deaf Chicago-based activist. Learn about language preservation in the midst of genocide and cultural erasure and how access and resistance are necessarily intertwined.
