Join the Social Justice Initiative for a special screening of “Audre Lorde: The Berlin Years, 1984-1992.”
This film uses previously unreleased footage of Lorde on and off stage from director Dagmar Schultz’s archives, paired with insights from Lorde’s colleagues and friends into the last years of her life and advocacy. Lorde’s work as a path-breaking Black, lesbian, socialist, feminist poet and professor in West Berlin was a catalyst in the Afro-German movement. She challenged white women to engage in meaningful solidarity and inspired a generation of writers and poets of color in Germany.
Space is limited, so kindly RSVP to attend at go.uic.edu/AudreLorde-Berlin.
The event is wheelchair-accessible. Please contact SJIChicago@uic.edu for additional accessibility questions.
This event is part of the UIC Social Justice Initiative’s free summer event series In Tandem: Solidarity, Solidarité, Solidaridad, curated by Lola Ayisha Ogbara. The series explores themes of solidarity and collective work and the process of working toward common goals through film, art, performance, workshops and more. Join us this summer in asking, “How do our struggles for justice work in tandem?”
