Cannabis Research Institute presents Beyond the Runner’s High: The Endocannabinoid System, Exercise, Stress and Recovery

Date / Time

November 18, 2026

1:30 pm - 2:30 pm

What can exercise and stress teach us about the endocannabinoid system and where should the research go next?

Cannabis Research Institute Research Spotlight Series welcomes Steven Philpott Jr. for a research-focused look at the endocannabinoid system through the lens of exercise, stress, performance and recovery. Steven will connect endocannabinoid system science to metabolism, nutrition and high-stress physiology while separating established findings from open questions. The session is designed to spark interdisciplinary discussion among University of Illinois researchers, students and staff about where endocannabinoid system research and education can go next.

Intended audience: University of Illinois researchers, faculty, students and staff, especially those working in public health, medicine, pharmacy, kinesiology, nutrition, biological sciences, physiology, behavioral health and cannabis research.

About the presenter: Philpott is an educator, writer, researcher, U.S. Marine Corps veteran and co-founder and CEO of Anzisha Consulting. A University of Illinois Chicago alumnus, he studies how endocannabinoid-system and cannabis science connect with athletics, performance, recovery and high-stress populations.
