Part of the Spring 2019 CUPPA Speaker Series, Michael Batty, Bartlett Professor of Planning at University College London and Chair of the Center for Advanced Spatial Analysis, will explore dilemmas on “Inventing the Future City: How Far We can See Ahead, How Far Should We See Ahead.”  He will draw from an array of examples from his recent book, “Inventing Future Cities,” and his research group.

Batty says we can never predict the future, but we can always invent it. Yet, if we cannot predict, we can never predict what we might invent. This view poses a major dilemma for planners who seek to solve problems that would lead to more sustainable, equitable, efficient, and livable cities.
