Design History: Scholarship, Pedagogy and Practice

Celebrating Victor Margolin, professor emeritus of design history, and the publication of his work, World History of Design, volumes 1 and 2.

Margolin will join three UIC faculty for a discussion: Amir Berbic, associate professor of graphic design; Jonathan Mekinda, assistant professor of design history; and Philip Burton, professor and chair of graphic design

Margolin will present a copy of World History of Design to the University Library.  The work is a result of more than 15 years of research and the first comprehensive history to cover design on a global scale. The first two volumes, published by Bloomsbury Academic and including 1,000 images, range from the beginning of human culture to the end of World War II.  A third volume on design from the end of World War II to the present is in preparation.
