Women’s Health Initiative is a group of students interested in learning about health disparities across different communities and cultures. We see the health care complex as an interaction between all kinds of fields: medicine, public health, policy, law, journalism, and more.

Our next speaker of the semester is Dr. Valencia whose career has revolved around public health and working to reduce health inequalities, improve oral health outcomes, and increase access to dental services for under-resourced populations. She is currently the Director of the Oral Health Forum; a community-centered initiative committed to improving oral health programs and services for all Chicago residents through education, assessment, policy and program development, and network collaboration. She is also leading a partnership effort with Chicago Public Schools and the Chicago Department of Public Health

We think that students in the School of Public Health will be interested in learning more about the healthcare system and disparities involved, all while becoming more aware of the issue related specifically to oral health services in Chicago. In addition, students may be likely to pursue professional degrees or specialized careers and would benefit from the networking and development opportunities we provide, and this event would be a great opportunity for that.

Hope to see many of you there!
