Uchechi A. Mitchell is an associate professor at the UIC School of Public Health in the division of community health sciences. She is a health disparities and minority aging researcher who addresses questions at the intersection of population and biopsychosocial sciences. She uses data from large national surveys of older adults to investigate pathways leading to late life racial/ethnic disparities in psychosocial outcomes, biomarkers and supportive resources. A central theme throughout her research is an interest in the ways in which individual- and community-level stressors and coping processes shape health over the life course and contribute to our understanding of risk, resilience and protective factors among older African Americans, specifically.
Mitchell will present her talk, Stress, Cognitive Decline, and Health Inequities: What do we know? What remains to be seen?
Public Health Unpacked is a weekly lecture series showcasing the insights, vision and research of public health leaders from the UIC School of Public Health and beyond.
Please note: As this lecture is offered during the lunch hour, we encourage attendees to enjoy their own lunch while listening to the lecture. Lunch will not be provided.
