“Raising Bertie”

Screening of documentary directed by UIC College of Architecture, Design and the Arts alumna Margaret Byrne (BFA ’01). Set in Bertie County, a poor, rural African American-led community in North Carolina, the film follows three youths who return to high school after their alternative school closes due to budget cuts. Byrne will answer questions after the screening.
