UIC Alumni Exchange: Stories and Lessons From a Walk Across America

Date / Time

October 20, 2021

12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Dr. David Mayer (BS ’78, MD ’82) — at 67 years old and fighting thyroid and prostate cancer in the midst of a worldwide pandemic and social unrest — walked across America. An avid Chicago Cubs fan, he stopped at 20 major-league, three minor-league and 14 spring training ballparks along the way. His goal: to raise awareness about patient and health worker safety. He was joined by families who had lost loved ones to preventable medical harm, which is the third-leading annual cause of death in the U.S., behind only cancer and heart disease. Join Dr. Mayer to learn about U.S. ballparks and hear his touching stories and those of the people who walked with him and learn how to make medical care safe for your loved ones.
