About the symposium

Over the past 50 years, new materials have permeated virtually every aspect of society, revolutionizing our communication, transportation, agricultural and health care sectors. This symposium focuses on two aspects of materials science. Functional imaging involves developing new advanced microscopy techniques to characterize the structure of adaptive, smart and biological materials. In contrast, functional biomaterials involve developing novel materials that will interface with biological systems to improve tissue and organ function. The symposium will provide a forum for interaction between medical, engineering and physical science research groups; an opportunity for students to explore career paths; and provide more information on seed funding opportunities for UIC-affiliated faculty.

How to attend

The workshop is open to all interested in functional imaging and functional biomaterials. This includes persons from industry, academia and national laboratories. Postdocs and students of all levels can join as attendees and participate in the career development session. There is no fee to attend, but an RSVP is required. Dietary restrictions are requested so we can plan for your attendance at the luncheon. Please note if you are a student and plan to attend the student career development session.
