In the Zona Abierta online talk series, UIC postdoctoral scholars will share their research on the biological causes of neurodevelopmental issues and the role of environmental exposures. Through an intersectional lens, these scholars will reveal the complexity and specificity of their contemporary research and how the lives of those in the margins are impacted.

Victor Florez-Garcia, from the division of epidemiology and biostatistics at the UIC School of Public Health, will present previous research on the impact of metal exposures on children’s intellectual performance in Mexico. He will also discuss ongoing efforts to assess environmental exposures (persistent organic pollutants and metals) in the United States. He uses cutting-edge epidemiological methods to research the role of environmental pollutants in multiple chronic conditions.
