Engle is an internationally recognized expert on nonprescription medicines, pharmacy education, ambulatory-care pharmacy and leadership.
Engle, a past president of the 60,000-member American Pharmacists Association, was named a fellow of the association’s Academy of Pharmacy Practice and Management in 1994, and in 2001 she received the association’s distinguished achievement award for clinical practice.
She has often testified at FDA hearings on issues such as switching from prescription to nonprescription medications and serves on the FDA’s Nonprescription Drug Advisory Committee.
Engle has received numerous awards, including Alumnus of the Year from Rutgers University’s pharmacy college; the Vanguard Leadership Award from Lambda Kappa Sigma; and UIC Woman of the Year for her mentoring of students and young faculty and service to the community.
