Leah Burt

Leah Burt, clinical assistant professor of nursing, directs the Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Program at the UIC College of Nursing and has been appointed as the college’s Director of Simulation Research in the M. Christine Schwartz Experiential Learning and Simulation Laboratory. She is a board-certified adult primary care nurse practitioner with full practice authority at the University of Illinois Hospital. 

Burt’s focus is on training nurse practitioner students to communicate with and diagnose patients who come from different socioeconomic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds. A Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator, Burt develops innovative human-based simulation approaches to enhance diagnostic excellence and communication competency when nurse practitioner students are interacting with patients.
