Dr. Scott Tomar

Dr. Scott Tomar is a professor and associate dean for prevention and public health sciences in UIC’s College of Dentistry. Tomar also serves as head of the department of population oral health and affiliate professor in UIC’s School of Public Health. He currently serves as the spokesperson on community water fluoridation for the American Dental Association and serves on the American Dental Association’s National Fluoridation Advisory Committee and the Dental Quality Alliance’s Measure Development and Maintenance Committee.

His research interests include understanding and eliminating disparities in oral health, oral health surveillance, community-based prevention of oral disease and facilitating access to care for vulnerable populations.

He is a former editor of the Journal of Public Health Dentistry and the Journal of Evidence-Based Dental Practice and has served as president of the American Association of Public Health Dentistry, the American Board of Dental Public Health, the American Public Health Association’s Oral Health Section, and the International Association for Dental Research’s Behavioral, Epidemiologic and Health Services Research Group.
