Honors

Khodr Maamari, a doctoral student in electrical and computer engineering, and Erin Yargicoglu, a doctoral student in civil and material engineering, are among four UI doctoral students who received $20,000 FMC Technologies Inc., Fellowships.

 

Denise Hynes, professor of public health and VA research career scientist, and Lorraine Conroy, professor of environmental and occupational health sciences and senior associate dean in the School of Public Health, are among the current class of 54 fellows selected to participate in the Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine Program for Women at the Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia.

 

Therri Thorkildsen, professor of educational psychology, was named to a one-year term as president of the Educational Psychology Division of the American Psychological Association.

 

James Pellegrino, professor of curriculum and instruction, was elected to a four-year term as vice president of the board of the National Academy of Education. The academy conducts research for use in education policy.

 

Jonathan Abarbanel, adjunct instructor in theatre, was elected chair of the American Theatre Critics Association. He will serve a one-year term as chair of the association’s nine-member executive committee.

 

Patricia W. Finn, professor and head of medicine, was named president of the American Thoracic Society. She will serve as its president through May.

 

Bob Liden, professor of managerial studies, was elected a fellow of the Academy of Management at its annual meeting Aug. 11.

 

Sid Bhattacharyya, associate professor of information and decision sciences, has joined the editorial board of Information Technology and Management journal.

 

Presentations

Mary K. Feeney, associate professor of public administration, was guest speaker Sept. 9 at “Governance in Local and Central Governments in the Age of Globalization,” an international symposium of the Civil Service Development Institute and the Directorate-General of Personnel Administration in Taiwan.
