People: CEOs for Cities

Chancellor Paula Allen-Meares was invited to serve on the CEOs for Cities National Leadership Council. The council advises CEOs for Cities, a national nonprofit organization of urban leaders working to make cities more connected and successful.  A member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies, she was recently reappointed to a second two-year term on its member awards committee.

 

Five students participated in the Chicago Future Leaders Program over spring break, through a collaboration with the Office of Career Services. The students, who visited the American Red Cross of Great Chicago and Exelon Corp., were Ayesha Riaz, a junior in architecture and the Honors College; Mahavish Mahmood, a sophomore in mechanical engineering; Maria G. Gutierrez, a junior in business management; Auriel Schmitt, a senior in business management; and Beatrice Go, a sophomore in biological sciences and psychology and the Honors College.

 

Sunil Agnani, associate professor of English and history in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, received the American Comparative Literature Association’s 2014 Harry Levin Prize for Hating Empire Properly: The Two Indies and the Limits of Enlightenment Anticolonialism. The prize honors the best first book published in the field of comparative literature.

 

Demetra John, associate dean for academic and student affairs and clinical associate professor of physical therapy in the College of Applied Health Sciences, will receive the 2014 Donna Frownfelter Community Service Achievement Award from the Northwestern University Physical Therapy Alumni Association April 12. The award honors alumni for outstanding contributions toward public awareness of physical therapy.
