CRIME ALERTS

UIC Police received a report at midnight April 23 that at 3:15 a.m. April 21 a student was the victim of criminal sexual abuse by an acquaintance, also a UIC student, in a university residence hall at 600 S. Halsted St.

The victim reported that she accompanied the offender to his room and fell asleep. She was awakened several times by him touching her and rubbing against her, but she was too frightened to leave until later that morning.

The offender is described as a South Asian male, 5 feet 9 inches in height, 130 pounds, with a thin build, brown eyes, short black hair, and single ear piercing.

The university is providing resources to assist the victim and will continue to take actions to maintain the safety and security of the campus community.

UIC Police are leading the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call 312-996-2830.

A person not affiliated with UIC was the victim of an armed robbery at 12:45 a.m. April 18 in the 1100 block of West Vernon Park.
The victim was walking westbound on the south side of the street when he was shoved from behind. He turned and saw two offenders, one of whom was pointing a handgun at him. The offenders demanded the victim’s phone and backpack, took the property and fled west on Vernon Park before entering a red vehicle — possibly an older model Nissan sedan — that was double-parked near Racine Avenue. The vehicle turned south on Racine. The victim delayed reporting the crime to police.

The first offender, armed with a black semiautomatic handgun, was described as a Hispanic male, 30 to 40 years old, about 5 feet 9 inches tall and 150 pounds. He was wearing a black jacket, blue jeans, Timberland boots, a hat turned backward and had a trimmed beard.

The second offender was described as a Hispanic male, 30 to 40 years old, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and 280 to 300 pounds. He was wearing a tight white long-sleeved shirt (possibly UnderArmour brand), blue jeans, Timberland boots and a gold hoop earring in each ear.

The Chicago Police Department will conduct the follow-up investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call 311.
