Tuesday: Kids to taste celery as ‘food-of-the-month’ for health

WHO/WHAT:

Elementary students will use all of their senses to experience celery during a food-of-the-month tasting to promote vegetable consumption and heart health.

The children, in grades K-3, will learn about the importance of fiber for their growing bodies and take part in an educational wellness event with food, dancing and a special guest appearance by Hardy the Heart, an OrganWise Guy mascot.

At lunch, the young students will participate in a coloring contest to showcase their favorite vegetables. Winners of the coloring contest will be announced at an afternoon school assembly, where students will also be treated to a healthy recipe.

The event is a collaboration between the University of Illinois at Chicago-Chicago Partnership for Health Promotion, a program that delivers the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program Education; Daniel S. Wentworth Elementary; Chicago Public Schools Nutrition Support Services; and their food service partner, Aramark.
