UIC gets fired up for Spirit Week

UIC students, (left to right) Dulce Diaz, Julia Kaufman, Brie Ochoa, and Annie Li, decorate windows in Student Center East during last year’s Spirit Week.

Get fired up for UIC Spirit Week, Feb. 18 through 23.

The week, hosted by the Student Alumni Ambassadors, is a campus celebration that aims to increase school pride and offers fun activities for students.

Student organizations can show off their creativity and spirit during a “Paint the Windows” event from 2-6 p.m. Monday in the Student Center East cafeteria.

“My favorite event definitely has to be the Paint the Windows,” said Student Alumni Ambassadors executive board member Anthony Spatafora.

“Seeing my hand on a window will always be cool.”

Other events include a T-shirt sale, toy drive, high-energy improvisation show called Comedy Sportz, and more.

The main event of Spirit Week,  “Hustle Up UH,” is similar to Chicago’s Hustle Up the Hancock event. Students, employees and alumni raise money for charity while “hustling” up 28 flights of stairs at University Hall. The event begins at  10:30 a.m. Feb. 23 at University Hall.

The annual Lighting of the Flame ceremony takes place Feb. 25 at the men’s basketball game. Stop at the Student Alumni Ambassador table to create a poster to show your pride and support for the Flames.
