Volleyball game benefits Miracle on Taylor

Volleyball NetThe College of Nursing and UI Hospital nurses meet at the net Thursday in a volleyball match to benefit UIC’s Miracle on Taylor Street holiday charity program.

The fundraiser starts at 5 p.m. in the west campus Sport and Fitness Center. Refreshments follow the game.

Competitors will include College of Nursing dean Terri Weaver, associate dean Linda Scott, faculty member Susan Corbridge and hospital chief nursing officer Janet Spunt.

“Some of the nurses played collegiate ball, so there will definitely be some talent out there,” said Cheryl Pinotti, hospital manager of nursing recruitment and retention.

The Miracle on Taylor Street program works through designated charities to provide holiday gifts and supplies to families and children in the UIC neighborhood. Families provide wish lists of toys, clothes and books, then sponsors donate those items to the families.

The Graduate Student Nurses Organization and UI Hospital Nursing Science are sponsoring the volleyball match.

“The event is meant to facilitate allegiance between the College of Nursing and the UI Hospital,” said Jongwon Yoo, president of the Graduate Student Nurses Organization.
