What to do if you receive a positive saliva test result

Immediate next steps:

  • Please promptly contact your personal healthcare provider if you experience any symptoms of COVID-19.
    • If you do not have a provider:
      •  If you are a student, contact Student Health Services at 312-996-2901
      • If you are faculty or staff, contact UI Health at 866-600-2273
  • If you reside in campus housing, you will be contacted by a campus housing staff member shortly. You may also contact Susan Teggatz, Director of Campus Housing, at 312-287-4740 for immediate assistance.
  • All UIC students, faculty, and staff who receive a positive test result will be contacted by the UIC contact tracing team (312-355-2555) for further guidance and counseling in the next 24-48 hours. Please actively monitor your phone and promptly return any missed calls.

General guidance:

  • Stay home except to get medical care.
  • Monitor your symptoms. If you have an emergency warning sign (including trouble breathing, chest pain that won’t go away, confusion, or trouble talking), seek emergency medical care immediately.
  • Stay in a separate room from other household members and use a separate bathroom, if possible.
  • Avoid contact with other members of the household and pets.
  • Don’t share personal household items, like cups, towels, and utensils.
  • If you must be in the same room as another person, wear a mask and maintain 6 feet distance at all times.
