Women’s tennis nets third win in a row

The women’s tennis team (9-5, 3-0 Horizon League) earned its third straight Horizon League victory Sunday with a 7-0 shutout win against Northern Kentucky (6-8, 1-4 HL) at XS Tennis.

The victory was UIC’s second shutout win in the past three games.

Oana Manole and Rachel Le Comber opened doubles play at the No. 1 spot with a 6-1 victory against NKU’s Danielle Donahue and Sydney Power. Ann-Sophie Hahn and Melika LeBlanc came up short against Klara Skopac and Rheanna Morehart in the No. 2 spot, 6-4.

Jackie Altansarnai and Bianca Zuzu secured the doubles point with a win against Sierra Nellessen and Nicole Soutar in the No. 3 position, 6-3.

Altansarnai defeated Skopac in the No. 1 singles spot, 6-1, 6-4, while Hahn was victorious against Power in the No. 2 position, 6-0, 6-1.

Manole brought down Donahue at No. 3 by a score of 6-2, 6-0, and LeBlanc outscored Hailey Shanahan in the No. 4 spot, 6-1, 7-6 (3).

Le Comber blanked Soutar at No. 5, 6-0, 6-0, for her 11th singles victory of the season. Zuzu bested Nellessen at No. 6, 7-6, (4), 7-6 (2) to earn the sweep.

The Flames travel to Wisconsin this week to take on Milwaukee and Green Bay.
