Welcome back
After a week-long break from classes, we are back to the regular routine. No more sleeping in past 10 a.m.; now is the time to reset the alarms and retrain yourself to get up and make it to class on time. Remember, we still have grades to improve and these last few weeks of the semester are going to be crucial. So let me give you some tips to finishing strong in your classes this semester.
First things first, hopefully you were able to get some work done over the break. This is important because you will have a lighter load of assigned course work to do later in the semester. I know many of the professors give homework over the break so the smart thing to do is to do it and save yourself a headache trying to stay up late to finish an assignment.
My second tip for you is to look over the notes that you have written for any class to refresh your memory of the topics that have been discussed. I know for some, you may haven’t touched your backpack all week so you should do yourself a favor and go back over the notes so that you can transition smoothly with the professor into the next chapter or lesson.
The last tip I have for you is a simple one, all you need to do is tell yourself that these last few weeks of the semester are going to be the most productive weeks of your years in college. Some students may be in the middle of two grades. I challenge you to push yourself to earn that higher grade or pass that class that you may be struggling in. That’s my plan for the remainder of the semester. You should do the same.
Matthew Maggit is a sophomore in accounting in the College of Business Administration. Matthew decided to come to UIC because of the business program’s reputation and because he wanted to study at a campus with a diverse atmosphere. He likes how close the campus is to downtown Chicago and the Willis Tower. In his free time, he loves to surround myself with loved ones, and he enjoys sports and going to the gym.
