Meet your professors
During my two years here at UIC, one thing I have come to learn is that meeting your instructors will have a positive impact on your grades and on your understanding of the course. The fact is, instructors have hundreds of other students so they will only know you by your UIN unless you do something about it. I know you may feel that meeting your professor is intimidating because I felt like that, but you have to understand that professors have a full understanding of the course and you have to pass the course.
One reason why you should meet your professors is to find out where their offices are and get help with the course material. Many professors’ offices are located in University Hall, which is the tallest building on campus. Just make sure you find out the office hours of your professor or the door will be closed. The information for the location of your professor’s office and their office hours can always be found on the syllabus. Knowing where your professor’s office is located is important because you can ask questions about assignments. Now they won’t give you the answer, but they will help you better understand what is being asked so that you can find the answer.
The last reason why you should meet your professors is because they want to meet you. They want to know who they are teaching and they want your opinion of the course so go and visit your professor. You will be surprised by how much you can learn about your professor by coming into their office and having a conversation with them; they are interesting people.
Matthew Maggit is a sophomore in accounting in the College of Business Administration. Matthew decided to come to UIC because of the business program’s reputation and because he wanted to study at a campus with a diverse atmosphere. He likes how close the campus is to downtown Chicago and the Willis Tower. In his free time, he loves to surround myself with loved ones, and he enjoys sports and going to the gym.
