Testing samples inside an inert glove box
Argonne battery research Javier Bareno Garcia-Ontiveros manipulates an air-sensitive sample inside an inert glove box. The box is filled almost entirely with argon gas so that there is very little water or oxygen inside to react with and degrade the special battery materials.
Argonne is one of several research institutions that form an integral part of the Joint Center for Energy Storage Research, a public-private partnership which aims to overcome critical scientific and technical barriers and create new breakthrough energy storage technologies.
