Biography

Dr. Gelila Goba is an OB-GYN with clinical interests in obstetric care for moderate risk pregnancies, the diagnosis and treatment of precancerous conditions, complex gynecology problems and gynecologic surgery.
Her research focuses on improving maternal and perinatal mortality rates, cervical cancer prevention and care for women who have experienced intimate partner violence. Goba is an advocate for comprehensive and high-quality whole-patient care and is a firm believer in a patient’s right to own health care decision-making.
Goba has a significant commitment to women’s health both in Chicago and globally. She is director of the Global Women’s Health Fellowship program and a core faculty member of the Global Medicine program at UIC. Goba is the founder of the Mela Project, a medical residency peering program that seeks to establish an OB-GYN Center of Excellence at Mekelle University in Ethiopia.
