Campbell named Horizon League ‘Player of Week’

Redshirt sophomore forward Ruvanna Campbell is the Horizon League’s “Player of the Week” for Dec. 30 to Jan. 5, her first “Player of the Week” honor and third for the Flames this season.

Campbell averaged 22.5 points and 11 rebounds  in wins over Northern Illinois (Dec. 31) and Roosevelt (Jan. 3). She shot .720 from the field (18-of-25) and averaged 1.5 blocks over 27.5 minutes per contest.

Campbell helped UIC tie a program record with 11 consecutive victories. The Flames’ 11-2 record is the best 13-game start in program history.

Campbell scored 17 of her 22 points in the first half to lead UIC to a 66-54 victory at Northern Illinois Tuesday (Dec. 31). She was 8-of-14 from the floor and 6-of-8 from the line. She collected a game-high nine rebounds.

Campbell  had 23 points and 13 rebounds over 19 minutes Friday in a 98-68 home win over Roosevelt. She recorded 15 points and 12 rebounds in the first half. Campbell finished 10-of-11 from the field.

Campbell owns four 20-point efforts and eight double-doubles this season. She has scored in double-figures a team-high 12 times and grabbed double-digit rebounds on nine occasions.

Campbell leads the Horizon League in double-doubles (8), rebounds (10.8) and field-goal percentage (.547). She also ranks second in blocks (1.5 ), second in offensive rebounds (4) and eighth in scoring (15.3).

Nationally, she ranks 19th in double-doubles, 24th in rebounding and 49th in field-goal percentage.

UIC begins Horizon League play Wednesday, traveling to Wisconsin to take on Green Bay (7-5). Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the Kress Center.

In the Horizon League’s 2013-14 preseason poll, Green Bay was chosen to win the conference championship. The Phoenix have won or shared the Horizon League regular season title for 15 consecutive seasons.
