Closed to traffic

Beginning 6 a.m. Aug. 9 through 6 p.m. Aug. 11, Taylor Street will be closed between Hermitage and Wood streets as new equipment is installed for a hospital infrastructure replacement.

A construction crane will block pedestrian and vehicle traffic as it lifts air conditioning equipment lifted to the roof.

The main hospital entrance will be closed; patients and staff will use the employee entrance on the east side of the hospital, which will be staffed during visitor hours to help with pick-up and drop-off.

The emergency department will remain open.The bridge connecting the Outpatient Care Center and hospital will be open except for brief periods. The north entrance will remain open during normal business hours on Friday, with keycard access after hours and weekends.


Mentoring 101

“So You Think You Can Mentor?”, a workshop for employees interested in the Administrative Professional Mentoring Program, will be held Aug. 15 in 3050 Student Services Building.

The workshop will include roundtable discussions by staff members who have been mentors in the program.

Honors for alumni

Deadline is Aug. 31 to nominate outstanding UIC alumni and friends for awards honoring achievement, humanitarianism, leadership, loyalty and spirit.

Undergrad Research Award

Applications from faculty and students are being accepted for the 2013-2014 Chancellor’s Undergraduate Research Awards, which will fund more than 100 undergraduate students to work as research assistants in faculty labs.

Students must be eligible for Federal Work Study to participate.

Faculty members who hire a student also registered for research credit will receive a Faculty Research Mentor Award of $300 per student per semester to support any scholarly expenses.
