Nominate outstanding staff

Nominations are due June 27 for the Janice Watkins Award for Distinguished Civil Service, presented each year to one or more support staff employees.

Nomination forms are available online. 

The award was established in memory of Janice Watkins, president of the Staff Advisory Council, who died in 1974.


Benefit Choice fair

Information about health care and other benefits will be available Friday at the UI Health Benefit, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 30 in the UI Hospital’s first-floor conference rooms.

Besides benefits information from university representatives, there will be presentations from UI Health providers. Shuttle buses will be available from Science and Engineering South and the Student Services Building to the UI Hospital between 11 a.m. and 1:15 p.m.


Woman of the Year

Nominations will be accepted through July 1 for UIC’s Woman of the Year Award.

The award is sponsored by the Chancellor’s Committee on the Status of Women. Nominations should include a CV or résumé and at least three supporting letters describing the nominee’s service to UIC women as part of her job. Send nominations by email to


What’s the latest WoRD?

The WoRD (Women’s Reading and Discussion) book club meets July 23 to discuss its latest selection The Wisdom of Whores: Bureaucrats, Brothels, and the Business of AIDS, by Elizabeth Pisani.

The group, which is open to all employees and students, will meet from noon to 1 p.m. in 507 Disability, Health and Social Policy building, 1640 W. Roosevelt Road.

The book is available for purchase at a 20 percent discount at the UIC Bookstores or for checkout from the UIC Library.
