International Artists Perform in UIC’s Free ‘Tuesday-at-1’ Concerts

The University of Illinois at Chicago’s Tuesday-at-1 concert series brings artists from around the world and from UIC to perform in a wide range of musical styles. All concerts take place in Recital Hall L060 on the lower level of the Education, Performing Arts and Social Work Building at 1040 W. Harrison St. Admission is free and open to the public.

ALS Patient Receives Device to Aid Breathing Without Ventilator

The University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System is one of only a dozen hospitals nationwide to implant in ALS patients a device shown to help them live longer without a mechanical ventilator. A 41-year-old Chicago woman had the surgery on July 27.

A molecule embedded in the membrane of human liver cells that aids in cholesterol absorption also allows the entry of hepatitis C virus, the first step in hepatitis C infection, according to research at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine.
