Circle Back to Campus

UIC COVID Response Plan

Chancellor Michael Amiridis welcomes you back to campus.

Dear UIC Students, Faculty and Staff,

Over the past several months, UIC has done what it does best: listen, learn, teach, experiment, plan, prepare, and come together. Our collective goal, in this most challenging of circumstances, is to continue to fulfill our mission as one of the nation’s best urban, research universities. To do this, we have taken a deliberate and measured approach and have had the full engagement of faculty and staff in planning for a safe return, as we all “Circle Back to Campus” for fall 2020.

This plan, which aligns with federal, state and city guidelines related to COVID-19, provides comprehensive information to prepare you for your return to campus. It covers everything you need to know including personal health and safety, academics and instruction, technology and related resources, research, campus life and more. It is our goal to welcome you back to campus and minimize person-to-person transmission of COVID-19. Your role in following all of the health and safety measures is absolutely critical.  Simply said, everyone on campus needs to wear a mask, wash their hands/use sanitizer often, practice physical distancing, and agree to health checks and contact tracing as they become available.

Because of the continued uncertainty around COVID-19, we know that plans may have to change due to the progression of the virus and/or government guidelines. We will continue to keep you updated via the web, email and other communications. The most updated information can be found on the Road to Recovery webpage.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this plan from our faculty and staff throughout the University, to our medical experts at UI Health, to our facilities and student affairs experts, and to our student leaders. We are confident that our hallmarks of excellence in teaching and learning, research and innovation, student success, diversity and inclusion, and public good are intact and affirm our resilience and ability to move beyond this global crisis.

I look forward to being back on campus and hope to see you soon.

Michael D. Amiridis
