Discover Islam Week 2018 aims to unite
The Muslim Student Association (MSA) at UIC is excited to present Discover Islam Week 2018: a week of events on campus to bring together a diverse group of students to engage with each other. The week will take place from March 19-23.
In their efforts to unite campus and bring together a diverse representation of the student body, the MSA is excited to partner with the UIC Office of Sustainability, African Student Council, Black Student Union, Arab American Cultural Center, Asian American Resource Center, Latino Cultural Center, Newman Center, Sikh Student Association and the Hindu Student Association.
The events for the week include:
Monday, March 19
“Islam, Actually,” with Dr. Hisham Mahmoud, a former lecturer at Harvard University who now leads his own nonprofit learning initiative, Lanturna.
11am-1pm in Burnham Hall 316
Interfaith Jeopardy Game with the Newman Center, Hindu Student Association, and Sikh Student Association.
4:30-6:30pm in Lecture Center A4
Tuesday, March 20
“The Green Deen: Islam & the Environment,” with Imam Dawood Yasin, instructor at Zaytuna College in Berkley, California.
12:30-2:30pm in BSB 319
HumaniTea Time: A tea social featuring various cultural groups on campus.
5pm in Student Center East Room 302
Wednesday, March 21
“Who is Muhammad?” with Ustadha Tahera Ahmad, Association Chaplain and Director of Interfaith Engagement at Northwestern University
11am-1pm in Burnham Hall Room 304
Unity Dinner: A dinner featuring all of the student groups who have participated in Discover Islam Week, along with a keynote address from Dr. Junaid Quadri of the UIC History Department. The free dinner is open to all UIC students

Thursday, March 22
Service Project with Greater Chicago Food Depository
1-3:45pm (sign up is mandatory)
Hip Hop and Islam with Brother Ali, a prominent and highly respected hip hop artist.

Friday, March 23
Friday Prayers with Ustadh Umair Haseeb
UIC Rathskellar, 1pm
After Prayers: Epic Burger Outing
