Jobs, student loan debt, immigration: students discuss the issues

Student speaking from the audience

Students participate in the 2014 National Student Issues Convention.

Jobs, student loan debt, the minimum wage, immigration policy — students will have the chance to discuss the issues and more with local politicians Friday at the National Student Issues Convention.

Similar events will be held at campuses around the country. Undergraduate Student Government and the Political Science Student Union will sponsor on-site voter registration and a drive to collect new adults and children’s socks for Socktober, which benefits homeless people.

The convention will be held 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Cardinal Room, Student Center East.

Political figures scheduled to attend include Rep. William Davis, 22nd Ward Ald. Ricardo Munoz, former mayoral candidate Amara Enyia and Harish Patel, candidate for Illinois state representative.

Other sponsors include the department of political science and the Institute for Policy and Civic Engagement.
