Join the Social Justice Initiative for the next film in The Fierce Urgency of Now documentary series.

Awake, A Dream From Standing Rock, is a newly released film that captures the story of the Native-led fight to protect the land at the Standing Rock Indian Reservation and the police violence against protestors and water protectors.

The screening will be followed by a community conversation with David Bender, an organizer with the American Indian Center and member of the Standing Rock Sioux tribe. Audience members will be able to share their thoughts and ideas around the film and related topics.

The Fierce Urgency of Now is the 3rd annual documentary film series hosted by the Social Justice Initiative at UIC. This eye-opening series explores the local and global changes in our food, water, land, and natural resources and how these changes impact our communities and our planet. Each film focuses on one of four areas: climate justice, health, environmental racism and land rights.

Cosponsored by UIC’s Institute for Research on Race and Public Policy & Native American Support Center.
