Description: Motivational Interviewing is a course that teaches participants to use active listening skills along with a client-centered and directive approach to helping clients explore and work with their ambivalence about behavior change.
Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Recognize that ambivalence is a normal element in change.
- Understand the relationship between motivation and the interpersonal interaction between the client and practitioner.
- Use active listening skills to engage a client in the change process.
- Apply the spirit, principles and skills of motivational interviewing to helping clients change undesirable behavior.
