The Office of Planning, Sustainability, and Project Management (PSPM) and Institute of Policy and Civil Engagement (IPCE) is hosting Erika Allen of the Urban Growers Collective (UGC) in a working group discussion of alternative economic models that generate revenue from waste while avoiding exploitation. Erika Allen, the co-founder and CEO of Operations for Urban Growers Collective and President of Green ERA Educational NFP and co-owner of Green Era Sustainability Partners, will be introducing how Auburn-Gresham is making energy and compost of their food waste through the use of anaerobic digesters. Her talk, followed by a Q&A session, will take place on Wednesday, April 14, from 4 to 5:30 PM. Breakout sessions, facilitated by both UIC and UGC experts, will follow on Thursday, April 22, from 4 to 5:30 PM. Breakout topics will cover the topics of community engaged planning and implementation; food, nutrition, and spiritual pathways to health; and, technology and the circular economy.
