First-Generation College Celebration Day

Date / Time

November 8, 2021

9:00 am - 1:00 pm

National First-Generation College Celebration Day is Nov. 8!

We are celebrating UIC’s first-generation college students and announcing the launch of the second round of the Chancellor’s FirstGen Flames Abroad Scholarship. The Chancellor’s FirstGen Flames Abroad Scholarship was designed to support first-generation, first-year and new transfer undergraduate students in studying abroad. We were thrilled to induct the first cohort of FirstGen Flames Abroad scholars earlier this year.

We are having a tabling event at Student Center East from 9 to 11:30 a.m. with some international candy and information about study abroad opportunities and the FirstGen Flames Abroad scholarship.

Afterward, we plan to host an information session from noon to 1 p.m. both in person in the Study Abroad Office and via Zoom to further discuss study abroad opportunities that are a good fit for first-generation college students and to share information about the scholarship. We plan on having recipients of the FirstGen Flames scholarship on hand to share their experiences applying for the scholarship and preparing to study abroad.

Register here to attend the in-person presentation at the Study Abroad Office (502 University Hall) or attend virtually by registering for the Zoom session here.
