Join the Women’s Leadership and Resource Center and Gender and Women’s Studies for an honors thesis presentation by UIC Communications student Clarissa Corral exploring how street harassment is racialized and the experiences of seven Latina students who commute to UIC via public transportation.

For this project, Corral conducted semi-structured interviews to learn about these students’ definitions, experiences, and responses of street harassment. She argues that street harassment invades students’ mobility and is a constant threat during the commute between home and school. Public spaces like sidewalks, bus stops, and trains become vessels for Latinas to be harassed, or worse, killed. In this presentation, she will discuss her findings and share a call to action on the importance of Latina voices and the safety implications for Latina students on UIC’s campus.
