UIC State Universities Annuitants Association spring program

The UIC chapter of State Universities Annuitants Association will hold its spring program online. Featured speakers will be U.S. Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D – 8) and Bryan Soady, the association’s executive director. Krishnamoorthi will discuss congressional funding for universities and address federal issues of central importance to association members and other university faculty and staff, including the need to protect Social Security and Medicare and the fight to prevent budget cuts to critical benefits and programs.
Soady will report on the current session of the state legislature and the SUAA Legislative Program in Action, which is the basis for our lobbying this spring and includes virtual meetings with state legislators.
The program will include:
- Status of the U.S. Department of Education
- Fixing Tier 2 pension benefits
- Support for the governor’s budget on pension funding
- Increases in higher education funding
- State Universities Retirees Appreciation Day
- Advocacy for access to choice for SURS retiree health care

The program schedule is as follows:
11:30 a.m. Welcome by Dick Simpson, chair of the meeting
11:40 a.m. State Universities Annuitants Association Executive Director Bryan Soady on the State of the State, followed by questions in the chat moderated by two association UIC Board members
12:15 p.m. Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi on the State of the Union, followed by questions and answers
12:50 p.m. Thanks and closing summary by Dick Simpson
