Join the Women’s Leadership and Resource Center for our Women’s History Month keynote lecture with Dr. Chiquita A. Collins.

In 2017, women matriculants (admitted and enrolled) in medical school reached gender parity, and in some cases have outnumbered their male counterparts. Despite these gains, women continue to face significant disparities in mid-career to senior-level leadership positions. For African-American women, Latinas, and Native American and/or indigenous women, the statistics are even worse. Women of color are woefully underrepresented in leadership.

Why are there still so few women in positions of power? Why are women of color absent from leadership ranks?

Collins will discuss the barriers that women encounter and specifically address the dimensions of gender and race and their impact on leadership. She will share recent data reported by the Association of American Medical Colleges, The State of Women in Academic Medicine 2018-2019: Exploring Pathways to Equity (2020). Accessible resources complementary to her talk will be offered as recommendations for institutions in their quest to advance women.
